Low key I consider myself a bit of an artist. I've been drawing and painting since I was a kid. My classmates were clamoring to have me draw little caricatures for them, and even now I get asked to design a tattoo here and there. My new dream since seeing all the amazing traffic box artwork is to get artwork of my own on one of them.

I checked out The Boise City Department of Arts & History for information on how to even start this process. The next public art call won't be until 2021, but I looked at the requirements for 2020 just to get a feel for what they're looking for.

While the call was open to any and all, there was strong encouragement for local artists to apply. And I love that. The tie between art and history is huge, and someone who isn't a long time resident wouldn't have as firm a grasp on that the way a local would. So I think I'll give it a few years before I throw my hat in the ring. In the interim I'll keep researching, learning, experiencing, and drawing.
