Lifetime Releases Doomsday Mom: The Lori Vallow Story Trailer

Lifetime movies are anyone’s guilty pleasure - where they lack in production costs, they make up for in drama and suspense! Anytime there's a real-life scandal that happens, Lifetime is quick (like, really quick) to turn into a movie for the small screen. For example, the college admissions scandal involving Lori Laughlin and Felicity Huffman gave inspiration to the 2019 film appropriately titled, The College Admissions Scandal. Mostly recently Lifetime has turned another true crime scandal into a form of entertainment: The Lori Vallow Daybell murder case. 

Doomsday Mom: The Lori Vallow Story is based on the shocking true story of an Idaho mom’s involvement in the murder of her two children JJ and Tylee, who were first reported missing from their Idaho home in the Fall of 2019.  Lori was arrested and charged with the murder of her children shortly after the kids’ remains were found last year on her husband, Chad Daybell’s property. Just last month in May of 2020, in addition to the murder charges, Lori and her husband were also indicted on conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, grand theft by deception, grand theft, and insurance fraud. The couple was said to be involved in a doomsday prepper cult anticipating the end of the world.

The controversy of this movie being produced is that the trial is still underway and the case is ongoing, meaning that Lori hasn't even been found guilty or not yet. No one knows how this story ends yet! More importantly, these children have not had the chance to receive proper justice for what was done to them. 

Is it too soon for Hollywood to be dipping their paws into this one? It’s no secret that the Lifetime network will be making a profit meanwhile it hasn’t even been a year since the murders took place. While the story is one that has already been proven to captivate the nation, there is a question of morality and ethics that must have arisen at some point among the producers. 

Doomsday Mom: The Lori Vallow Story will premiere on Saturday, June 26 at 8/7c. Will you be watching?
