The Treasure Valey continues to grow at a rapid pace and we're seeing it all around us - especially in southwest Boise.

More road closures are on the way

Most of us are familiar with the road project along Five Mile Rd. that began last August and there's a good chance it's gotten under someone's skin at some point. There's also the development we're seeing along Lake Hazel/Orchard AKA one of Boise's most beautiful drives... that will soon be a thing of the past.

According to MacroTrends.net, the Boise metro area has been growing at an average rate of 1.69% in the last 3 years. That's roughly between 7,000-8,000 newcomers a year and while that doesn't sound like a lot, the current Boise metro area population is right around 470,000 according to MacroTrends.net.

Some of us might even feel like that growth rate is low. Especially when you consider how much traffic we're all seeing these days. That being said, it's about to get a bit more complicated with the construction of a new roundabout set to begin in southwest Boise.

"Construction is anticipated to be complete summer 2024"

According to the Ada County Highway Department, construction of a new multi-lane roundabout at Lake Hazel and Maple Grove is set to be underway this month. According to their updates, they began putting up temporary signage on October 27th:

Temporary signal installation has started on the corners of Cole and Desert/Maple Grove and Desert in preparation for the full intersection closure at Lake Hazel and Maple Grove.

You'll want to find an alternate route in the morning and evening if that's how you get to work or home. According to the Ada County Highway District, construction will be taking place from 7 AM to 7 PM "unless otherwise approved."

While it might be a pain at first, it should be worth it once it's all said and done. If you've ever been at this intersection during peak times, you know it can be a pain so hopefully, the roundabout alleviates that.

How are we feeling about the latest improvements to southwest Boise? You can let us know your thoughts here. If you're not a fan of roundabouts, you're not alone - let's look at some of the most despised roundabouts in the Boise area.
