The 2024 wildfire season is all but over and it's been a busy one for firefighters, infrastructure workers, and of course, those affected by the fires in some capacity.

Many of us are rightfully concerned about the threats the wildfires pose to our first responders, community, and homes. However, there is one threat we don't seem to be addressing, which could surprise any of us.

The effects of the Idaho wildfires

As one would imagine, wildfires can cost the state quite a bit of money. According to one report from the Idaho Capital Sun, this wildfire season alone will cost the state of Idaho an estimated $45.8 million in expenses as of September 17th.

Time can only tell how high those expenses will get when it's all said and done.

Money aside, there's also the effect on the environment which leads us to the issue many of us haven't thought about:

Where are they going to go?

And by "they", we mean the animals affected by the wildfires. The Idaho Transportation Department mentioned this in their report about a month ago:

Wildfires don’t just affect landscapes—they force wildlife to migrate, moving away from flames and into new areas. This means more animals are crossing roads and entering populated areas, creating unexpected encounters with drivers. As the animals travel in search of food and habitat, they are at risk of additional threats like vehicle strikes. Keep yourself safe by slowing down, staying alert and watching for wildlife on the roads.

We haven't personally witnessed any animals in our area in downtown Boise but we also know that we're a good distance from the areas affected.

That being said - we would love to know if you've spotted any animals displaced by the fires in your community, share your photos with us HERE.
