WATCH OUT! Criminals Are Weaponizing The Idaho Transportation Department
As if there wasn't enough going on for us to pay attention, now we have to worry about criminals taking advantage of good and trustworthy Idahoans.
Seriously... do people have no shame?
The Idaho Transportation Department Issues A Serious Warning
Criminals will do anything for a buck these days, and sometimes that means stooping down to the lowest level possible. The Idaho Department of Transportation issued a warning on Monday (6/2) that scammers are posting as IDT in hopes of tricking Idahoans into giving them their hard-earned money.
"The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is warning residents about a scam text message circulating in the state that falsely claims recipients owe money for unpaid traffic violations," ITD said in a press release.
"The message typically includes a link and demands immediate payment to avoid further consequences. These messages are fraudulent. They are not from ITD or any affiliated agency."

It's sad to think there are people who are willing to fear-monger people into giving scammers their money. It's also understandable and scary to think how convincing scammers can be. Imagine if an elderly person or someone who isn't as familiar with technology as some gets a message like that.
What's stopping them from clicking the link out of fear?
According to ITD, the messages try to trick people into believing they have unpaid tickets and fines to get their personal information to use later, or even, in some cases, money. ITD says if it's not from them, completely ignore it.
"If you didn't get it from www.dmv.idaho.gov, don't trust it."
