Governor Brad Little signed a law last week that seems like common sense making sure libraries across Idaho filter pornography. It seems like this should have been blocked a long time ago but better late than never. Most specifically this law will prevent minors from using personal laptops, tablets, smartphones or other devices to access the sites that are inappropriate.

There was a law in place already but it only dealt with public computers, this new law applies to all devices that access the wireless internet through the libraries. The estimated cost for each library is around $2,500 but it could be less just depending on the system already set up at the library.

In total this is going to affect 35 rural libraries that will need to update their policies. The new law begins on July 1, 2020 but let's hope they can jump on this quickly and less cringe worthy behavior is going on at our public libraries.
