Idaho Dairy Queen Locations Survive the Company’s Cut
There are many Dairy Queen locations that will close soon because of financial troubles, but Idaho locations will stay.
And there is another bright side with two new seasonal additions to the Blizzard menu, involving hot cocoa and candy canes. This is good, because our seasonal willpower is out the window.
Texas-based Vasari LLC went to court this week to outline the bankruptcy plan, and it includes closing 29 Dairy Queen locations in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. The company says the DQ locations that will shut down are "underperforming," and they'll close by the end of the year. The rest of the company is being restructured, so we'll have to wait and see what that means for Treasure Valley locations.
The Boise, Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell Dairy Queen Grill and Chill locations are NOT closing. Whew! Most if not all of the Idaho locations made the cut and will remain open.
And now more good news. DQ is getting seasonal, and contributing very nicely to the most wonderful weight gain time of the year. No calorie-counting til January, right? We can pop in this month or next and get the ever-popular Candy Cane Chill Blizzard which returns to the menu, along with the brand new Oreo Hot Cocoa Blizzard that sounds cozy warm and ice cold at the same time. Both of those just launched this week, and will be available through December.
It's never to cold for ice cream right? Especially when it tastes like hot cocoa. With all the stories of closures lately, we're glad these local franchise locations survive.
