If you have a rival at work that you don’t get along with or you’ve always wanted to settle a dispute with a bad driver on the streets of Boise, your solution could be just four hours away.

The state of Washington is one of two states in America where “mutual combat” is legal (the other being Texas) according to WorldPopulationReview.com. When looking deeper into the law on the State of Washington’s website, there’s a law on “Dueling” that states:

Any person subject to this code who fights or promotes, or is concerned in or connives at fighting a duel, or who, having knowledge of a challenge sent or about to be sent, fails to report the fact promptly to the proper authority, shall be punished as a court martial may direct.

The keywords here are “fails to report the fact promptly to the proper authority.” This means you’ll need to notify an officer about your arrangement with your enemy so they can be present to presumably ensure nothing gets out of hand during your fight. It’s important to note that any property damage or harm to bystanders is still illegal during the confrontation.

All of this being said, I do have some thoughts like what does the phone call to the police about setting up a fight sound like? Would the 4-hour drive from Boise to the state of Washington intensify or weaken the energy between the would-be fighters? Whatever the case is, fighting shouldn’t be the answer but if all else fails and you’re able to make the arrangement with your enemy and/or rival? A phone call and a 4-hour drive are the only things standing between you and that person throwing hands.

Have you ever been in a "duel" that was agreed upon? I would love to hear about it.
