Boise Bridge Construction Causing Changes to Your Commute

The commute is about to become much more difficult for some of us, as the Idaho Transportation Department begins work on area bridges and overpasses in the Boise area.

Spring not only brings flowers and greenery to the Treasure Valley, it also marks the beginning of road construction season.

Over the next few weeks the ITD will begin construction on various bridges and overpasses here in the Treasure Valley causing slowdowns and in some cases closures.

One of the most significant projects: work on the Emerald Street bridge between Cole Road and Curtis Road over the Connector. Work will require a full closure and commuters will need to find alternative routes during construction.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the next two weeks and continue through late May.

According to a release from the Idaho Transportation department, Spokeswoman Jennifer Gonzales said: “During that time, the bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic. Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain open over the bridge and access to local streets, homes and businesses in the area will be maintained,”

“During construction, the detour for Emerald Street will be Fairview Avenue or Franklin Street via Cole and Curtis Roads. Noise and light are also expected to impact the work zone while construction is underway. According to ITD, overnight lane closures on the Connector will also occur near the bridge.

Preservation work on other bridges elsewhere will not require full closures, but you can expect slow downs and lane reductions at the following locations begging in April and lasting through May:
– I-84, Meridian Road Interchange
– I-84, Broadway Avenue Interchange
– I-84, Cole-Overland Interchange
– I-84, Gowen Road Interchange
– Broadway Avenue, Boise River Bridge

Improvements are intended to help protect and preserve the longevity of the bridges.
