Water can go from fun to a full-blown nightmare situation in a matter of minutes. A 4-year-old boy is fighting for his life this morning after a near drowning accident at a pool in Meridian.

The boys family was visiting from Washington state and they were swimming at a community pool just south of Hillsdale Elementary when the accident happened.

According to an article on KTVB, the young boy was playing in the shallow end of the pool when he walked out too far and got in an area where he could no longer reach the bottom.

He is said to have been facing down in the water for several minutes before a young girl spotted him and alerted adults.

A man at the scene of the accident started performing CPR on the boy immediately. A Meridian Police officer then arrived on the scene and took over CPR until the paramedics made it there.

The boy was in the Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital as of yesterday afternoon. His current condition and prognosis are unknown, but please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.

As I said before, water play can quickly have life-changing consequences. The country music community continues to mourn the loss of Granger Smith's 3-year-old son after a drowning accident this summer. I also know of a family whose son experienced a near drowning when he was 8-years-old and although he survived he was left with severe brain damage and life for their family has never been the same. Please continue to use caution around water as you enjoy the summer.
