What was your first job ever? I'm not talking about that random job you picked up on a random summer for money under the table either, I'm talking about your first actual job. The one where you had to fill out all of that paperwork and list your "accomplishments."

Some kids are forced into working their first job while other kids have a goal in mind... financial freedom. Personally, my parents had me pick up a job the second I began driving and got a cell phone - the classic silver Samsung flip phone. I thought I was so cool too; I remember walking into random school functions holding my keys. I would hold my keys as if it was a sort of badge of honor, announcing to the room:

"I'm a man now."

We all know that I wasn't... I was a high school teenager working my first job ever for minimum wageThat job was at a grocery store in Texas known as H.E.B. The letters stand for Howard E. Butt, the founder of the grocery chain. It was a dream situation for a then fifteen-year-old: I got my learner's permit, inherited a 1991 Chevy Silverado, rolling up to my first job at H-E-Butt ready to make that sweet $5.15 an hour.

I thought I was a hustler - rich and getting weekly paychecks for a couple of hundred bucks.

"Someone is paying me to push carts and bag groceries?! I'll do this all day!"

And I did until one day, I dipped out for a friend's birthday party and no-called no-showed... what can I say? I was irresponsible.

What's the point of this story? Minimum wage. We all remember our first jobs and I got (oddly) curious as to what the minimum wage was every year for as far back as I could go... 1938. Let's take a look at the minimum wage in Idaho every year since 1938...
