The Bates Motel started long before Alfred Hitchcock came out with the movie 'Psycho' in 1960.  You can go all the way back to World War II where there were officers barracks in Coeur D' Alene.  This establishment eventually was sold and turned into a motel called The Roadway Inn.  After a few years, a man by the name of Mr. Randy Bates bought the motel and it was renamed The Bates Motel.

Some say that the author of Psycho, Robert Bloch, stayed at the motel sometime in the fifties and used part of his experience and knowledge to write the book.  This happened sometime in the fifties and seems to make a lot of sense when you start putting together the puzzle pieces because not only is this motel called 'The Bates Motel' but it's haunted just like the book.  Well, maybe not JUST like the book but it is haunted.  The book and the movie definitely take haunted to another level which rarely, if ever is the case in real life.

In the 80's a production crew used The Bates Motel in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho for a movie and that's when the Bates Motel sign went up.  It's been there ever since.  People travel thousands of miles to stay in this haunted little worn down motel just to catch a glimpse... or a sound or a feeling or something that they know is supernatural.  Something you cannot experience hardly anywhere in the world.  But you can here.  People have reported the following after staying in Coeur D' Alene's Bates Motel.

  • paranormal activity that primarily focuses on rooms one and three
  • the unsettling feeling of being watched
  • strange noises
  • moments of frigid temperatures
  • lights being turned on and off
  • ashtrays moving when nobody else is in the room

If you dare to take the risk of sleeping over in what possibly inspired the Psycho movies that has become so notorious it won't cost you much.  Rooms start at around $49 a night.  It's located at 2018 Sherman Avenue in Coeur d’ Alene and offers guests 13 rooms.  Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah 😱😱.  13 rooms?  Yup.  The rooms are all non-smoking (ghost are not into cancer sticks, helloooooo) and the motel is currently for sale.  Oh, and just because you're going to pee your pants after seeing some kind of a ghost doesn't mean you have to live in the stone ages.  Each room comes with...

  • Wireless internet connection
  • Cable television
  • Air-conditioning
  • Free parking
  • Free local calls
  • Refrigerator
  • Microwave
