I've said it once, I'll say it again, I'll say it forever. The ocean is the single scariest place on earth. Bodies of water in general freak me out. The fact that I can't swim isn't even the issue. It's fear of the unknown. There is so much we don't know about what goes on in the depths of the sea. And every once in a while the surface is greeted with a terrifying sea creature serving as nightmare fodder.
A deep sea dwelling anglerfish washed ashore in California recently and it was horrifying. Known as the Pacific Football fish, this monstrosity is a reminder that below us lurk creatures stranger than anything we see on land. And with a little research they are even weirder than we can possibly imagine. Just take a look at this video explaining the mating habits of this anglerfish. You'll want to share this knowledge with everyone you know.
Idaho being such a huge fishing state, naturally I wondered what kind of nightmare fish are hanging out in these waters. Perusing the pages on the Idaho Fish and Game website, I came to the conclusion that all fish make me shudder. But the one that will disrupt my slumber for weeks to come is the Flathead Catfish.
What am I even looking at here?! This one is a record winner in terms of size, at 42," but these things are WEIRD. Catfish already have a face like a thick lipped, surprised man with scraggly facial hair. But add that its head is flat, that's a creepy factor makes my skin crawl.
More power to those who enjoy sea creatures and spending time in the open water. I couldn't do it. I won't do it. I'm a baby.
