There's a certain responsibility that comes with being a parent, and this Meridian woman is now sitting behind bars because she chose to leave her young kids alone on New Year's Eve so she could go out and party!

23-year-old Madison Donovan has been charged with two felony counts of injury to a child.

Donovan's 1-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter were found to have been left alone for 6 hours while she went out for New Year's Eve party.

According to an article on idahonews.com,  Meridian police originally showed up at E. Elbridge Street at about 11:20 p.m. to see about two children who were possibly home alone the officers couldn't confirm it and they were told that the children were being taken care of. When they arrived back at the house at 2:30 a.m. they found the very young kids alone but unharmed.

Madison eventually admitted to police that she intentionally left her kids home alone so she could go out for New Year's Eve.

What are your thoughts on this? Obviously, it's wrong on so many levels, but when things like this happen I always think, "what went wrong here?" Did she get so desperate to be a young 20-something woman that she snapped as a parent and made a horrible decision? Should there be resources in our society for people who are fed up but have no one to watch their kids? Being a parent is hard. Being a young parent can be particularly hard, but at the end of the day, it's the well-being of these helpless kids that matters most. I simply question, can we service both?
