The Idaho State Police have reported a second fatal vehicle accident in Southern Idaho’s Bear Lake County. Both accidents involved drivers from Utah and Idaho, and ISP is investigating each accident.

The first fatal accident happened on Thursday morning, and the second happened Friday morning. Both occurred a few minutes after 11 AM near Bear Lake.

Idaho State Police Have Reported A Second Fatal Accident in Bear Lake County This Week

An ATV rider was killed on Thursday, and a motorcycle rider was killed on Friday, and neither off-road vehicle rider was wearing a helmet when the accidents happened.

On Friday, August 28th at 11:22 AM, ISP responded to a fatal accident west of St. Charles on Minnetonka Cave Road, which runs along the St. Charles Creek.

A white 2026 Kawasaki KLX110 motorcycle, ridden by a 22-year-old male from North Ogden, Utah, was traveling eastbound on Minnetonka Cave Road. A tan 2005 Jeep Liberty, driven by a 66-year-old female from Montpelier, Idaho, was traveling westbound on Minnetonka Cave Road. The Kawasaki collided head-on with the Jeep.

The bike rider was not wearing a helmet and passed away. The driver of the Jeep was not wearing a seatbelt but didn’t require medical transport.

On Thursday, August 27th, around 11:12 AM, Idaho State Police responded to an accident involving an ATV and a van, though the vehicles didn’t make contact. The accident happened north of Bear Lake in Ovid on North Road.

A 71-year-old male, of Ovid, Idaho, was riding a 2014 Polaris Sportsman, eastbound on North Road.

A 22-year-old male, of Nibley, Utah, was traveling in a 2021 GMC Savana, westbound on North Road.

The ATV driver swerved to avoid colliding with the van and lost control. He went off the road and struck a concrete barrier, then rolled. He was not wearing a helmet and was initially transported by air ambulance for care, but passed away at the hospital.

ISP have also reported a fatal accident in Bear Lake County this year on April 17th and a serious injury accident on July 11th.
