Limited Night Operations Begin Soon at Bogus Basin
After a weekend of jam-packed parking lots and sold-out day passes, Bogus Basin mentioned on social media that night operations would be starting soon.
Most of the social media comments I saw over the weekend were upbeat. The common theme was: yes, it. was. PACKED. But a lot of visitors gave props to the staff for well-managed chaos.
Bogus Basin Quietly Announces Night Operations
In a response to a skier’s question, Bogus also mentioned that limited night operations would begin Thursday, the 15th, and continue through the weekend.
While a brief social media mention is awesome, it doesn't carry the weight of an all-out announcement. So, if you’re planning a night session this week, you should check Bogus’ official operating hours before you head out, in case anything changes at the last minute.
Meanwhile, Magic Mountain Is Still Waiting on Enough Snow
While Bogus is dealing with peak crowds, some of the small mom-and-pop ski spots are still trying to get to opening day.
Soldier Mountain in Fairfield was finally able to open last weekend. Magic Mountain in the Twin Falls area is still struggling and remains closed while they wait for enough snow to safely open.
Skier's Outlook for This Week
The National Weather Service forecast for the Bogus Basin area looks mostly sunny through the week. Highs should generally land in the low 40s, with nights staying cold enough to keep the snow from melting off quickly.
The forecast around the Twin Falls area is telling a similar story. Magic will see a dry stretch, lots of sun, and chilly nights. That helps preserve the base layer, but it also means we may not see the kind of fresh snow Magic Mountain needs to jump-start the season.
