Idaho Is Getting A New Mountain Bike Park

A brand new mountain bike park is opening this weekend, and it's just a short road trip away.

If you haven't been out of Boise in a few months and you're itching to hit the road, there's an Idaho ski resort that you might want to hit before it snows.  Soldier Mountain is opening a new mountain bike park that will be open through early fall.

Starting this weekend, Soldier Mountain says it will open for mountain biking Fridays through Sundays until the end of October, weather permitting. Lift service is scheduled for 1:30-7 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.  Hours will be extended for Labor Day weekend.

Soldier Mountain will celebrate the grand opening of its new mountain bike park this Saturday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m., after it officially opens at 1:30 p.m. Friday.  And it's a 50 percent discount off the regular price of admission for the grand opening this weekend, plus free dessert.  The dessert alone is enough to get some of us there. Tickets normally cost $39 for adults and $29 for tweens and teens 9-17.

With the new additions, Soldier Moutain will become one of eleven ski resorts in Idaho offering lift-service mountain biking.  The resort says the trails are made for all skill levels, so you'll have fun even if your skill level is "not so much," like me.

The weather isn't going to be as scorching hot this weekend, so it might be the perfect opportunity to back up the bike and try something new.
