Strap in, Idaho teens, because the sky's the limit on this one.
Did you know that in the Gem State, you can legally earn your wings as a private hot air balloon pilot without parental consent? It's not your typical after-school activity, but hey, who said Idaho couldn't be an aerial playground for 16 and 17-year-olds?
Step 1: find a hot air balloon instructor
You'll need to channel your inner adventurer and find a certified hot air balloon instructor. Picture it: you, floating gracefully above the potato fields, steering your balloon like a pro. But, hang on a second, it's not all breeze and breathtaking views.
You'll have to go through some serious training to master the art of wind currents, navigation, and probably a bit of cloud dodging.
Step 2: take the written exam
Once you've aced your training, it's time for the moment of truth: the written exam!
Think of this as your ticket to the clouds. But fear not, it isn't rocket science, it's balloon science! Once you pass your written exam, congratulations, you're one step closer to becoming a hot air balloon pilot.
Step 3: take the flight test
Before you start dreaming of high-altitude escapades, there's one more very important thing: the flight test!
This is where you prove you have the skills to soar Idaho's friendly skies solo. Once you demonstrate your balloon airman skills, voilà, you'll officially be a privately licensed hot air balloon pilot in Idaho.
Limitations for Teenage Pilot Balloon Students & Licensed Operators
Balloon pilots in training, known as student balloon pilots, are not permitted to transport passengers.
On the other hand, teens with a private balloon pilot certification can carry passengers, but they're prohibited from engaging in commercial activities or accepting payment for their services.
