Update: Idaho’s Search for Five-Year-Old Matthew Has Ended
Boise Police
Last night, the Treasure Valley was struck by the tragic news that five-year-old Matthew Glynn went missing from his birthday party. Little Matthew had wandered away from his birthday party around 6:00 pm, prompting an immediate response from the Boise Police.
The crisis was further complicated by the fact that Matthew was a nonverbal child with Autism.
From the start, Chief Ron Winegar of BPD expressed significant concerns about the waterways surrounding the area where Matthew went missing. Their search efforts, which included drones, K9 units, UTVs, and ATVs, were focused on finding Matthew as quickly as possible.
Boise Fire
The Boise Fire Department also played a critical role in the search for the child. BFD dispatched firefighters, two engines, a brush truck, and their dive team to canvas the canals.
Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue
Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue also partnered with local authorities on the mission to bring Matthew home. For 20 hours, volunteers and professionals worked tirelessly, showing immense compassion, strength, and determination.
Because Matthew was nonverbal, the rescue teams played his favorite nursery rhyme, "The Wheels on the Bus," over loudspeakers in hopes it could draw him out of hiding.
The Search for Little Matthew Ends
Despite the best efforts put forth by the task force, the outcome would be heartbreaking one. Just a few hours ago, Treasure Valley residents were notified that Matthew's remains were discovered in a canal; a grim reminder of the risks posed by our local waterways.
Tonight, Idahoans statewide mourn the loss of one of their children, their hearts pouring out to Matthew's family.
