Lowering the Speed Limit on Eagle Road in Boise Is a Terrible Idea
ICYMI: they want to lower the speed limit on Eagle Road.
If the initiative passes, it'll knock the speed limit down from 55 to 45 mph at different times throughout the day. Pardon our French, but what fresh hell is this, IDT?!
Eagle Road's already the poster child of gridlock traffic jams. Quick question, IDT, are you trying to make us later for work and school drop-off than we already are? Sure seems like it.
Do they really think dropping the speed limit will reduce speeding?
Because we don't. If anything, we can see speed demons and lead foots taking it as an open invitation to push the limit on their already risky road behavior. Don't forget about the folks who aren't necessarily risk-takers or ignoramuses who make a game out of beating Google Maps's ETA.
Do slower speeds mean longer commutes?
We don't see how not. Natives and long-time locals know nothing turns a quick trip to Lowe's into a 90-minute excursion like the infamous Eagle Road. We can practically hear it mocking us...“Oh, did you think you’d get to XYZ on time today? That's adorable and also not happening."
We get that IDT's intention is to make things safer for everyone. In reality, however, it may lead to more honking, more brake checks, and a lot more headaches for everyone.
Feel free to disagree with us, but lowering the speed limit on Eagle Road is asking for trouble. Email your opinions on ITD's proposal to ryan.valenzuela@townsquaremedia.com.
