"All Hail the Wicked Witch of Juniper Road!"

In life and in death, Idaho's Holly McCray Blair was one-of-a-kind. A self-described witch, Blair's obituary went viral shortly after she passed in August of 2020. The reason? According to her obituary, Blair "exploded into glitter and bats" upon her epic demise. Below is Blair's whimsical obit featured on the Wood River Chapel's memorial website.

Holly McCray Blair, 1948 - 2020

Holly Blair exploded into glitter and bats on August 17, 2020. She is survived by four spoiled cats ,two stinky dogs, three bad birds, a turtle and an utterly useless frog named Fred as well as three children and a husband of little to no importance.

Her remains will be interred under a tree with the ridiculous multitude of animals she rescued both wild and domestic. Her future plans include drinking beer with Terry Pratchett and flying across the moon on her broomstick on Halloween.

She has also promised to communicate with us from the beyond via the cockatiel psyche. We ask that everyone carve extra jack-o'-lanterns on Halloween this year in her honor. All hail the wicked witch of Juniper road!

Will Blair Return?

Blair's obituary is 122 words in all. Yet three years later, the late Hailey resident's sarcasm, humor, and love of Halloween is still making us laugh.

The comments section of her digital obit is also brimming with colorful sentiments from strangers who said they would have loved to have known her. And according to Blair's own words, they might still.

Someone Built a Funeral Home in Front of a Boise Retirement Home

Do we recognize the genius behind building a funeral parlor a stone's throw away from a retirement home? Absolutely. But we're not apathetic to how that might make the retirement home's residents feel. We're selectively and playfully insensitive to it.

To that end, we seized the opportunity to exploit the scenario with a sense of humor we pray old age never robs from us!
