Feeling Stressed? This Boise Salt Room Can Save Your Sanity
Let's be honest. 2020's has really pushed our mental health to the brink. If you're close to opening up the backdoor and just screaming, try this first!
In the past week, I had a handful of moments myself. All of them were brought on by my inability to stop doomscrolling through my Facebook newsfeed. Central District Health limits social gatherings to 10. Neck gaiters aren't effective masks. Boise State football canceled. Fauci says temperature checks are no longer an effective screening tool. It's too much. My mind can't process any more COVID-19 rules, regulations and information. I quit.
Just as my final straw was about to break, I had the opportunity to try halotherapy at Salt Sanctuary and left with a whole new outlook on the week!
If you're unfamiliar with what a salt room is, it's a room where the floor is covered in ground up salt. The lighting is dim and the Himalayan salt walls almost make it feel like you're relaxing on a beach at sunset.
While you're in the room, a piece of equipment called a halogenerator grinds up pharmaceutical grade salt and circulates it through the air so you can breathe it in as you relax during your session. That lightly salted air actually helps kill bacteria and reduce inflammation in your respiratory system. It's actually supposed to be pretty great for people with asthma, allergies, COPD and other respiratory conditions.
The sound of the halogenerator is drowned out by some really pretty music like you'd hear while getting a massage. Impressed by how pretty the room was, I settled into one of the inviting, cushioned beach chairs and took what were probably my first deep breathes all week.
The room is an electronic free zone, so I wasn't tempted to jump on social media to pass the next 45 minutes. I didn't know that when I showed up. If I had, I may have brought a book or magazine with me, but I was just as happy drifting off for a completely stress free nap.
When my session was over, I walked out the room and said out loud "I didn't know how much I needed that." I meant it. I left my happy little salt beach more relaxed than I had been in months. My heart was filled with gratitude for 45 minutes of unplugged, peace and quiet. The experience was so zen!
If you're reading this thinking, "gosh, this is what I need," we think you're right! And that's why next week, we're giving you an opportunity to try it FREE when you win the LITE-FM Pop Quiz!
