D-Day, June 6, 1944, was a pivotal moment in world history. It was the day American soldiers, along with their Allies, stormed the beaches of Normandy.

Braving unimaginable danger to turn the tide of World War II, their courage under fire beat the overwhelming odds and liberated Europe from Hitler terror. Understanding their actions can help every Idahoans to appreciate the profound scope of their sacrifice and how they led to the freedoms we enjoy today.

The soldiers who executed D-Day were incredible as were their wartime accomplishments. Their sacrifice undeniably laid the groundwork for the peace and prosperity America and many nations around the world enjoyed following the war.

To this day, their courage, honor, and selflessness belong to the bedrock of our nation's strength and identity. The sacrifices of our World War II Veterans are a daily reminder of the cost of freedom. At least they should.

By integrating their values into our daily lives, Idahoans from every generation can honor their great sacrifice. That can mean exercising our right to vote, supporting service members, Veterans, and their families, or even standing up to injustice.

Believe it or not, simple, small acts of kindness, community service, and educating young Idahoans about the history-changing significance of D-Day can go far in preserving their legacy.
