'Tis the season for a visit to the cemetery, but this is not the way to do it.

49-year-old Anthony R. Pape of Boise fell asleep at the wheel at about 10 p.m. on Monday night and he ended up running into and breaking several headstones at Morris Hill Cemetery.

Anthony's minivan was found lodged on top of a headstone and there was evidence he had run over several markers.

Anthony Pape has been arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of malicious injury to property.

According to an article on KTVB that details the incident, several thousands of dollars worth of damage has been done to the headstones. Pape will be arraigned on November 15th and he faces up to five years in prison.

Police Sgt. John Terry released a statement saying this,

When someone does damage to a hallowed place like this, we take it very seriously and find those responsible. In this case we are happy that no one was hurt and that we were able to arrest the man suspected of causing the damage. We will seek restitution in this case and the cemetary is working with the victims to make things right and put the headstones back in place as quickly as possible.
