Let me cut to the chase. I don't want to join my neighborhood's Facebook page. I don't want to be on the Nextdoor app for it. I want to live my life with my family in a little ignorant bliss bubble and I don't think I should be thought of as a terrible neighbor for it. On a few occasions I have been asked by fellow neighbors about things of which I had no clue. And each time they responded, "Didn't you see it on the Facebook page?" And this wouldn't bother me so much if there wasn't disgust and annoyance in their tones.

So why don't I just join the page? Truthfully, and maybe this is rude, but I don't care what my neighbors are up to, or even what neighborhood events are going on because I don't want make connections with anyone and I don't want to go. If I join the group they will know I'm aware of the happenings and then judge me for not participating. I do know I'm risking not being made aware of any safety concerns in the neighborhood, like suspicious characters/cars lurking around, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Also, what if they've been talking about me already? From what I've heard, these neighborhood pages/chats can be really gripey and judgy and people feel really comfortable behind a keyboard. If I'm already a target of discussion, I don't want to see it. I'm broken inside and the thought of people hating me gives me a stomach ache. I know I'm assuming I'd even be interesting enough to be mentioned, but there was a stretch of time where my yard was considerably not up to par with the rest of the neighborhood's and I shudder to think how they must have felt. I mean, these yards belong in a magazine while mine belonged on some sort of landscaping rescue show.

If anyone has a legitimate reason as to why I should get in on the neighborhood action, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise I'll just continue to endure the less than thrilled looks on my neighbors' faces when I'm forced to admit I have no clue what's happening on my own street. But I don't think I'm a jerk for it!
