Alive After Five, Annual Downtown Events Canceled
In a year where EVERYTHING faced change, cancelation, or postponement, most of us are only hoping that things are looking up for 2021. Believe it or not, we are nearly to the DAY that will mark a year since COVID-19 impacted our community here in the Treasure Valley. Of course, even just by this time last year, we were already seeing things around us get a little strange and uncertain. Just this afternoon, I saw a news outlet in Spokane, Washington share that it marks a year since the first COVID-19 patient was flown into Spokane from Seattle for isolated "bubble" treatment.
What has the last 12-months looked like for us in Boise? It has been rough on business and individuals alike. Bars and nightlife have tried to "come back" a couple of times and it has yet to really be successful. Concerts certainly haven't come back yet--as we saw them all get canceled over the last year--including our own Boise Music Festival. Major milestones like weddings also saw cancelation and while many got pushed back to 2021--we still don't know what the outlook for those will be.
Just this morning, we learned that the Downtown Boise Association will be calling off their annual events--not giving anybody a whole lot of great news early into this new year. Of course, we know that a global pandemic isn't bound to that of a calendar year, but wow we have been hopeful.
Annual events managed by the Downtown Boise Association include Alive After Five, which has been a staple to our community since I was a kid! According to their statement, the Father's Day Car Show is also being canceled. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution for the public due to continued community spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Downtown Boise Association says that these events will return in the summer of 2022.
