Summer officially arrives in the Treasure Valley on Friday, June 21.  Just a few weeks later, we'll be getting ready to celebrate America with family BBQs, parades and in some cases, fireworks.

If your family is one of those that loves to include all those bangs and pops in your celebration, are you wondering when you can start buying fireworks for the Fourth of July? According to state law, summer fireworks selling season officially begins on midnight, June 23 and runs through midnight on July 5.  Local jurisdictions do have the authority to extend the season by five days.  That's why you may see some stands, like John's Discount Fireworks in Caldwell, open as early as Friday. Most of the stands you see around the Treasure Valley are operated by TNT Fireworks who lists June 24 as their opening date.

As a reminder only "safe and sane" fireworks are permitted in the state of Idaho. Those include non-aerial fireworks devices like ground spinners, fountains, sparklers, smoke devices or snakes. These fireworks stay close to the ground and don't travel outside a 20-foot diameter. Fireworks that are explicitly BANNED from the Gem State include bottle rockets, sky rockets, roman candles, firecrackers, missiles, parachutes, sky flyers, display shells and other ariel items.

If you live in the City of Boise, remember that fireworks are NOT allowed in the foothills. If you're unsure which areas are officially considered the foothills, the City Code spells out the exact boundaries HERE.
