What Idaho is Googling for Thanksgiving is Almost Embarrassing
Is it just us or does it seem like Thanksgiving just crept up on us this year?
Sometimes I feel bad for Thanksgiving since it frequently gets lost in the shuffle between Halloween and Christmas. People blame the big box stores that put out their Christmas decorations right after labor day or people who start playing Christmas music on November 1 for the drop in the holiday's popularity. Even at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the turkey gets one upped by Santa who closes out the parade route every year.
Personally, I don't think it's any of those things that make Thanksgiving the least popular of the three year end holidays. I think it's because Thanksgiving can be an extremely stressful celebration. Yes, the day is meant to celebrate all the good things in our lives we're thankful for but at the end of the day the holiday really revolves around the Thanksgiving dinner in front of us. There's a lot of pressure on at home chefs to not mess it up!
With that in mind, it's no surprise that Idahoans are Googling all kinds of things about Thanksgiving Day but it's not questions like "how long do I deep fry a turkey" or "restaurants near me open on Thanksgiving Day." According to CenturyLink's list of most popular Thanksgiving Google searches by state, Idahoans don't even know when Turkey Day is!
That's right! The most Googled Thanksgiving question in the "Gem State" is "when is Thanksgiving?"
My jaw dropped when I read that. Almost every calendar in the smart phone world has major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc, pre-loaded for its users! The answer was in your hand the entire time. You really didn't need to look that up after all, now did you?
For the record, Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Keep that nugget in your back pocket, so you don't have to Google it in 2019!
BTW, Thanksgiving 2019 will fall on November 28. You're welcome.
