Westbound I-84 to Close for Construction Next Week
Heads up, I-84 will be seeing some closures next week to accommodate for some construction on the Cloverdale bridge. The closure will affect the stretch of I-84 between Cole/Overland exit and Eagle Rd exit. It will begin on the night of March 4 at 10 p.m., it will reopen the next day at 6 a.m.; then close again on the night of March 5 during the same times.
Eastbound traffic will, unfortunately, also be affected. According to the Idaho Transportation Department, during the two nights, Eastbound lanes will be restricted to just two lanes while crews work on the median. The EB lane restrictions will begin March 4 at 9 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. the next day; the lane restrictions will take affect again on March 5 during the same times.
During the closures, crews will be working on setting girders at the Cloverdale bridge project. The bridge had to be rebuilt following that tragic accident last Summer that took the lives of four people after a 7-car pileup resulted in an awful fiery crash that damaged the Cloverdale overpass.
The Ada County Highway District and the ITD have been working together to rebuild the bridge, originally built in the 1960s and it is projected to cost about $10.8 million. Once completed, the bridge will have two lanes in each direction, and a wide sidewalk to accommodate for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The Idaho Transportation Department is working on detours during the construction.
