West Ada County District Decides Mask Mandatory for K-12
This has been a very rocky start to the somewhat end of Summer that is approaching. School for West Ada Country begins on Thursday and the ruling on masks was just announced.
Students in K-12 will be required to wear masks for the remainder of 2021. School starts this week and the ruling comes down less than 36 hours from the first day of class. However, there is an opt-out option for parents. This is somewhat confusing.

This seems to be the way superintendents are going around making a full decision on the mask mandate for the upcoming school year. The vote has been finalized as parents and teachers continue to debate the ruling.
2-1 Vote for a mask mandate has been finalized which comes with an exception. Parents are allowed to opt-out students if they don't feel it is necessary to wear a mask. Meanwhile, my son isn't able to start school on time without his vaccinations complete (he's taking classes online this year.)
Basically, you won't be forced to wear a mask if you have a note from your parents. This battle continues but this seems like the pathway to the least resistance in my opinion. Everyone wears a mask unless your parents so you don't have to wear one. Right?
West Ada County Teachers are already under fire for viral photos of the development event held without masks.
We will keep an eye on the rulings that continue to come down including local changes to events. Here's what we've seen so far.
- Jonas Brothers Concert - Requires Prove of vaccination.
- FitOne - In-Person canceled. Virtually only.
- Pride Events - Requires Proof of vaccination.
KTVB went live during the mask meeting and has been updating with changes. You watch that below and we'll keep you posted with updates. School begins on Thursday.
