The Boise Fire Department was called to a brush fire in a largely residential area in Southeast Boise this afternoon.

According to Watch Duty, the Boise Fire Department responded to what is now called the "Starview Fire" because it is located just off East Starview Drive, north of Warm Springs, around 3:45pm. The unit on the scene then requested additional resources because of the "light, flashy fuels."

According to the Boise Fire Department's X account, the fire initially threatened two homes. However, the department's prompt action quickly eliminated the danger, and they now have the 10-acre fire under control.

At the time of this writing, two Battalion Chiefs, five engines, four brush rigs, and one truck are on the scene.

What do all of those things mean? A Battalion Chief is the highest-ranking fire officer on duty. A fire engine is what you typically call a "fire truck." They are usually used to transport firefighters to the scene of a fire, hold a lot of equipment for putting out fires, and make rescues and other emergency equipment. They also bring a limited supply of water. Brush rigs are used for grass fires where there isn't much access to fire hydrants. They can carry up to 1500 gallons of water. Whenever fires happen, we quickly become thankful for the firefighters who put their lives on the line daily to keep us and our loved ones safe.

For more context, this fire is on a hill behind the banking, preschool, veterinary clinic, and new Sid's Garage location just off of Parkcenter and Warm Springs.
