Minor Dies in Early Sunday Morning Accident Near Soda Springs, Idaho

An accident north of Soda Springs early Sunday morning claimed the life of a juvenile passenger, according to Idaho State Police.

The accident happened on Government Dam Road at about 1:30 a.m. on April 27, 2025. ISP says that a 19-year-old male from Soda Springs was the driver of a 2007 GMC Sierra. The driver was traveling southbound on Government Dam Road north of Soda Springs when he failed to navigate a curve and left the road.

One Dead, Two Others Injured

A juvenile passenger passed away at the scene from injuries. Two other passengers were also hurt. One was taken by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital, and another passenger was airlifted for treatment.

According to Idaho State Police, the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. None of the passengers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Alcohol Confirmed as a Contributing Factor in Fatal Soda Springs Accident

ISP has confirmed that alcohol was a contributing factor to the cause of the accident.

Government Dam Road Closed for Several Hours

The crash shut down Government Dam Road for about three and a half hours while emergency responders worked to assist those involved and clear the scene.

The Caribou County Sheriff’s Office, Soda Springs Police Department, Classic Air, and Caribou County Ambulance all assisted at the crash site.
