7 Dead in Horrific Crash Near Henry’s Lake Involving Tour Van and Pickup

A crash involving a tour van and a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 20 near Henry’s Lake has left seven people dead and others injured.

The Crash Happened Thursday Evening on Highway 20 in Fremont County

Idaho State Police say the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, at milepost 399 on eastbound Highway 20 in Fremont County. The accident involved a Mercedes passenger van with a tour group and a black 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

ISP hasn't yet provided details about the cause of the crash, but we know that the van caught fire following the crash.

There were 14 people in the van at the time of the crash. The driver of the pickup was alone.

Multiple Fatalities and Injuries

Six van occupants and the driver of the pickup lost their lives.

Emergency medical personnel treated others injured on the scene. The severity of their injuries has not been disclosed by ISP.

Road Closed for Hours

U.S. Highway 20 was shut down for nearly seven hours as crews worked to assist victims and clear wreckage. The Idaho Transportation Department helped manage traffic during the closure. The highway has since reopened.

Cause Still Under Investigation

The Idaho State Police is investigating the accident, with assistance from local and regional agencies. The cause of the crash has not been determined.

Names, ages, hometowns, and nationalities of those involved have not been released, pending next-of-kin notifications. The Fremont County Coroner’s Office will handle the release of those details and determine the cause and manner of each death.

ISP says more information will be provided as the investigation continues.
