Richard Simmons Supposedly Set to Sue Media Over ‘Hurtful’ Stories
Richard Simmons plans to sue RadarOnline, the National Enquirer, and American Media, Inc., according to PEOPLE. The site says Simmons (recite that 10 times fast) posits the stories they published about him were created “in a hurtful campaign of defamations and privacy invasions.”
Along with this lawsuit, Simmons, 68, has a lot going on right now amidst reports that have surfaced about his health. Just last month, he was hospitalized for "severe indigestion." After the incident, Simmons thanked his caregivers via Facebook, saying, "I wanted to take a moment to send a big thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center during my short stay there this week. They make you feel good even though you’re in the hospital for feeling bad.”
Simmons, a leader in the fitness industry for decades, has not been seen in public since 2014.
As for the potential lawsuit, an American Media spokesperson said, “While we have not seen Mr. Simmons’ complaint, we stand by our reporting about him, all of which was based on solid sourcing and material evidence. Should he choose to proceed with his lawsuit, we will defend it vigorously, and we look forward to the public vindication of our reports.”
