Spend the Night with the Master of Macabre in Boise

Are you captivated by the themes of love and loss? Do you find the supernatural intriguing? Perhaps you've felt the edge of your sanity. These are all emotions that Edgar Allan Poe's works evoke.  

We've all heard of Poe, but do you know much about him? He was a poet and writer living in Baltimore. He is the primary figure when it comes to Gothic fiction. He pioneered detective fiction and even early forms of science fiction in America. His legacy is long-lasting, even though his stories were short.

Some of his most famous works are The Tell-Tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Raven, all of which have been used in television and movies. Most recently, The Fall of the House of Usher was turned into a scary Netflix miniseries.

While Poe died long before Idaho became a state, his influence is felt all over the state. Next month, there will even be a pop-up Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy. An Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy sounds like something I'd like to check out, even though I'm not sure what that is.  

After some research, I discovered that the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy is not just a passive reading of his works. It's an interactive night where Poe Historians read his stories, and each of the four tales is paired with a themed cocktail. The event, which lasts about an hour and a half, takes place at the Lounge at the End of the Universe.

The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy will be open for three shows per night on June 6th and 7th. The shows, which start at 6pm, 8pm, and 10pm, offer a unique experience of Poe's works accompanied by themed cocktails. On Saturday, June 8th, the shows are every two hours beginning at Noon. Tickets are typically $55 per person, and that includes your cocktails, but Saturday night at 6 and 8pm are priced at $62. The 10pm shows on Thursday and Friday are only $48.

The night sounds like a dream or perhaps just a dream within a dream.
