Mistakes & accidents are bound to happen when you're a parent.

Mistakes and accidents happen to the world's best, most caring, attentive, and on-it parents. And more often than not, it's the tiny things we overlook or miss that might put our little ones, or even our older kids, in harm's way. No matter how hard we try to protect them, parenting perfection is a fictional concept.

Sometimes the dangers are lurking within our homes.

Many of us don't think twice about where keep our own adult medications. Still, curious little hands can find their way into childproof bottles when left to their own devices.

Did you know that the CDC reports around 50,000 little ones under five are taken to the emergency room due to accidental medication poisonings. Hard to believe, isn't it? The point of childproof bottles is to prevent children from accessing the harmful substances they contain while cooking dinner or taking care of a million other things around the house.

Just like there's no such thing as a perfect parent, there's really no such thing as a totally childproof object.

Summer fun can turn into an emergency in a heartbeat.

The person who said vigilance is the key to protecting a kid way oversimplified an unsolvable problem. They also probably weren't a parent.

Is being aware, present, and proactive a great way to try to mitigate risks and threats to their well-being? Sure, but kids get hurt before their parents' eyes every day.

The gallery below highlights the nine most common summer injuries for kids. While some are familiar, others aren't as obvious. For instance, before reading into it, we had yet to learn how common child food poisoning instances were during the summer barbeque season.
