Kelsea Ballerini took it on the chin last night. The 29-year-old country starlet was in the middle of a performance at Outlaw Field in Boise on Wednesday when the unexpected happened.

Ballerini catapulted into fame with her debut single, Love Me Like You Mean It, off her debut studio album, The First Time, released in 2014. The single peaked at number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and went certified Platinum in 2016. She made history as the second female country artist to have achieved the benchmark following Carrie Underwood in 2006. Her career's been on fire ever since.

But fame and album sales did nothing to protect Ballerini from being accosted by an unhinged audience member.According to TMZ, the singer "was struck by what some people believe was a bracelet, causing her head to jolt backward." Videos circulating social media show Ballerini was hit so hard, she was forced to walk off stage.

To Ballerini's credit, however, the singer kept playing her guitar until the moment she stepped off stage. After she regrouped, Ballerini came out and urged concertgoers to be civil and to stop throwing things at the stage. Following the show, the star updated fans on her condition.

Hi, I'm fine. Someone threw a bracelet, it hit me in the eye, and it more just scared me than hurt me. We all have triggers and layers of fears way deeper than what its shown, and that's why I walked off stage to calm down and make sure myself, [my] band, and [my] crew, and the crowd all felt safe to continue. That's all I ever want, is for shows to feel like a safe place for us all. I love you and appreciate all of the concern. Let's make the last two shows of the Heartfirst tour the best yet.

Kelsea, if you're reading this, please know Boise is heartsick over what you went through. We loved having you in the Treasure Valley, and we hope you visit again soon!
