Man Dead Following Police Shooting in Boise

An unfortunate series of events in Boise this morning led to a police involved fatality.

We're lucky to live in the Treasure Valley where our streets feel safe and one look out for one another--day or night. It didn't take long for local social media pages to start posting and wondering: WHAT could be going on near Overland Road and Cloverdale?

Officers responded to an individual that was reportedly suicidal. After trying to diffuse the situation, things escalated.

The Boise Police Department was quick to inform the public of exactly what happened late this morning on Overland Road:

Officers arrived and at 9:59 a.m. they approached the suspect near a canal.  One of the responding officers is part of the Behavioral Health Response Team and his civilian partner was also on scene.  Officers attempted to talk with the suspect and de-escalate.  The suspect presented a knife and the officers moved back. Officers then deployed a 40 mm less lethal impact munition to avoid further confrontation, and it was unsuccessful. The suspect continued to advance toward officers and at 10:02 a.m. an officer-involved shooting occurred with two officers firing their duty weapons at the suspect. Officers began to provide medical aid until additional first responders arrived and took over care. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The department went on to share that per protocol, the officer that was involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
