Behind the Badge: Understanding the Vital Role of Police in Idaho
Last week was a challenging week for Idaho law enforcement. The Treasure Valley seemed to resemble a California city than our beloved Gem State. These two shooting incidents once again underscore the dangers our police officers face daily.
Wednesday began with an incident involving a man driving through our area from Oregon. Boise Police and others attempted to stop the suspect, who was seen around Timberland High School. The man got out of his car and appeared to have a weapon; police fired on him and took chase. He was apprehended and taken into custody.
During the same time, Eagle Police and other area law enforcement officers were called to the Westmark Credit Union in Eagle. Most folks aren't used to seeing the massive amounts of law enforcement speeding to the scene. Departments from Boise, Meridian, and Ada County Sheriffs arrived to handle an armed man.
We've always considered our area one of the safest places in the country to live. However, these incidents of violence continue to become more and more common as more folks move to Idaho and the Treasure Valley.
Idaho is one of the states that continues to support law enforcement. As other cities and states embraced the defund the police movement, Idahoans held rallies for the local and state police departments.
All of us should do our best to support the men and women of law enforcement. A small gesture such as a thank you when you see a police officer goes a long way to show our appreciation for their service. Please take the time to pray and continue to support our law enforcement officers.
