Pedestrian Killed on I-84 After Walking Into Westbound Lanes in Minidoka County

In a tragic interstate accident, a man from Florida was killed late Monday night after being struck by a pickup after walking on Interstate 84 in Minidoka County.

Idaho State Police say the crash happened at 10:29 p.m. on March 9 near mile marker 207 westbound, in the Heyburn area.

Florida Man Killed After Entering Westbound Lane on I-84

Idaho State Police said a 44-year-old man from Sebring, Florida, was walking eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84 when he was hit by a westbound pickup. At the time this story was published, we didn't have an explanation as to why the man was walking on the freeway.

Investigators said the man walked into the lane of travel and was struck by a 2013 Ram 2500.

He died at the scene.

Pickup Occupants Were Not Hospitalized

Police said the truck was driven by a 22-year-old woman from Jerome. A 21-year-old man from Declo was riding as a passenger.

Neither occupant was taken to the hospital. Idaho State Police said both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Crash Blocked Interstate for About Two And A Half Hours

The westbound roadway was blocked for about 2-and-a-half hours while emergency crews responded and investigators worked the scene.

Idaho State Police said several agencies assisted, including the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office, Cassia County Sheriff’s Office, Heyburn Police Department, West End QRU, Emergency Run Ambulance, and the Idaho Transportation Department.
