Hemorrhoid Cream Causes Death In California

The California Department of Public Health is warning of a deadly hemorrhoid cream that has left one Sacramento woman dead.

In a statement, officials say that the hemorrhoid cream is from Vietnam and contains 4% lead which can be extremely dangerous. The cream is called Cao Bôi Trĩ Cây Thầu Dầu​ and was purchased by the Sacramento woman on Facebook according to officials.

According to the statement, she then had a relative in Vietnam mail it to her in the US but officials are still uncertain if it can be purchased anywhere in the states.

Lead poisoning is serious and fatal

We hope it's obvious but if for whatever reason, you have this cream lying around in your house: THROW IT OUT! Lead poisoning is a serious issue and according to the California Department of Public Health, can cause symptoms ranging from mild to severe.

On the mild side, you might experience fatigue, mood swings, and have trouble focusing or sleeping. On the severe side, lead poisoning can lead to severe stomach cramping, burning sensations throughout your body, seizures, comas, and death according to the California Department of Public Health.

It's important to do as much research as you can when shopping online and beware of buying things that can impact your health.

Officials advise those who have used this ointment to seek medical attention immediately. They also suggest that if you have it, "put the jar of ointment in a sealed plastic bag and contact (510) 620-3620 or email toxoutbreak@cphd.ca.gov."
