Popular Retailer Going Out of Business in Several Washington Locations

UGH, say it ain't so! Another bargain store is permanently closing doors here in Washington. It's the end of an era.

I'm old enough to remember being sad (and shocked) when K-Mart went out of business even though I wasn't a frequent shopper there. We've already lost a few good ones this year: Sears finally called it kaput, quite a few Walgreens and Rite Aid locations shuttered, and surprisingly, even some 7-Eleven convenience stores said bye-bye to the Evergreen State.

THE BAD NEWS

When it comes to bargain retail shops, I think of places like TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Ross Dress for Less, Big Lots, and...

Hold up, did I just say Big Lots? Sadly, yes, we are losing some Big Lots stores due to a recent bankruptcy filing and a huge store selloff. They've been around since 1967!

The last time I went into one of their stores (which is unfortunately on the chopping block list below), I was looking for a bookcase. I didn't find what I was looking for though, so I went elsewhere. What surprises me about the closure of these Big Lots locations is that they are in (or near) some of our major cities!

These are the locations slated for closure:

Lakewood

Marysville

Port Orchard

Puyallup

Richland

Spokane

Spokane Valley

Wenatchee

But wait, there's more!

News9 reports the Kennewick, Vancouver, and Yakima locations are also closing!

The information does not appear to be listed on the Big Lots websites as of the time of this writing, however, the parent company recently filed an affidavit last week that lists these locations for permanent closure.

The Tacoma Big Lots is also listed for closure, too!

The good news is that not ALL of their Washington locations are going away. You will just have to drive a little farther to get some savings on furniture, kitchen stuff, things for the home, electronics, cleaning supplies, clothes, knick knacks, and whatever seasonal decor they have in stock.

This also means that us bargain shoppers just might score the retail deal of a lifetime during the Big Lots liquidation sales (and you know there will be LIQUIDATION SALES)!

The remaining Big Lots locations in Washington state so far seem to be:

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
