Dialing Back the Transplant Animosity

We get it, y'all. From time to time, the influx of new residents has been overwhelming for us. Still, don't you think it's time to dial back the criticism? Maybe take a page from the ole "don't judge a book by its cover" philosophy? Because we sure do.

Yes, a sudden increase in population can bring about its own unique challenges. But instead of letting these challenges divide us, let's use them as opportunities to come together.

A bit of patience, understanding, and grace could go a long way in bridging the gap between Idaho natives, long-time locals and the new kids in town. It's time to unite and work towards a common goal.

Transplants aren't "da Devil, Bobby!"

Over the last 10 years, the anti-transplant sentiment has skyrocketed throughout the Treasure Valley. In Boise, Eagle, Meridian, Star, Nampa, and Middleton, newcomers, especially Californians, are looked at and regarded as the devil coming home to destroy our way of life.

In reality, it's a mindset that does more harm than good. It fosters division and stunts community growth, and we're on the losing end of it. Think about it. Transplants moved to Idaho to live their best lives and bask in the beauty and opportunity they found here.

Like it or not, Cali transplants are here to stay.

Fresh faces spur diversity, skills, business, and investments that enhance our communities and boost the local economy. Being hypersensitive and overly critical means we risk losing potential talent and resources that could elevate us all.

Stewing, complaining, and casting wicked side-eye glances achieves nothing. It's time to shift our focus. Let's work together to preserve what makes our stunning state so rare while also welcoming new people and their potentially brilliant ideas into the mix.
