
Multiple Tragic Fatal Crashes on Idaho Highways Over the Weekend
Two fatal crashes occurred on Idaho roads over the weekend. One in Idaho County and the other in Kootenai County. Both incidents are still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
Fatal Crash Near Lochsa Lodge in Idaho County
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:58 a.m., Idaho State Police responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on US Highway 12 near milepost 161. The crash happened about one mile west of the Lochsa Lodge in Idaho County.
Driver Crossed the Westbound Lane Into Traffic
A 60-year-old man from Des Moines, Washington, was driving an eastbound 2021 International box truck on US 12. The driver failed to correctly navigate a right-hand curve, and his truck crossed the double yellow lines into the westbound lane.
A 59-year-old man from Middleton, Idaho, was traveling westbound at the same time in a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The two vehicles collided on the curve. A 54-year-old woman from Middleton was seated in the back seat of the Hyundai.
54-Year-Old Middleton Woman Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Emergency services and an air ambulance responded to the crash. The 54-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. All individuals involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.
Alcohol Suspected Contributor in Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Spirit Lake
On Friday, May 2, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a fatal motorcycle crash occurred at the intersection of State Highway 54 and Coeur d’Alene Drive in Spirit Lake, located in Kootenai County.
Failure to Yield Results in Collision
A 61-year-old woman from Spirit Lake was riding a 2022 Honda touring motorcycle westbound on SH 54. A 23-year-old man, also from Spirit Lake, was driving a 2014 Subaru SUV eastbound on the highway.
According to the initial investigation, the Subaru driver failed to yield while turning left onto northbound Coeur d’Alene Drive and crashed into the motorcycle.
One Life Lost in Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Spirit Lake
The driver of the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene. The Subaru driver was uninjured and had been wearing a seatbelt.
Alcohol Might Be a Contributing Factor in Fatal Accident
Authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
Names of Deceased Pending Release
The Kootenai County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased after next of kin have been notified and will determine the official cause and manner of death.
