Diddy Considers Bringing Back ‘Making the Band’ TV Series
Diddy is mulling over whether he should bring back MTV’s now-defunct reality show Making the Band.
On Monday (July 8), the Bad Boy Entertainment mogul jumped on Instagram and posted a video explaining that MTV asked him if he was interested in bringing back MTB. However, the hip-hop king is concern about repeating himself.
“Something so great, you don’t want to mess with it, you just want to leave it alone,” he explained. “Don’t get it twisted, that’s one of the most fun experiences of my life with Making The Band...I feel that’s my calling in the culture, taking young next talent to the next level.”
Diddy is asking his fans to go on social media and show him how much they want MTB to come back to MTV. He’s asking everyone to at him with @diddy and write the hashtag #iwantmymtb.
“You thought the cheesecake was something, y’all ain't seen nothing,” he concluded.
For those who may not know, season three of Diddy's Making the Band 2 on MTV was a memorable season in the show's history as it featured a group of diverse rappers (Chopper, Babs, Dylan Dilinjah, Ness and Freddy P) and one singer (Sara Stokes). They went on to become the rap group Da Band and release their first and only album, Too Hot for TV, in September 2003.
The season was infamous for the ongoing fights between the members and what many considered a humiliating task of them walking from midtown Manhattan to Brooklyn to fetch a cheesecake from Junior's restaurant for Diddy. The episode was hilariously parodied by Dave Chappelle on Chappelle's Show.
It will be interesting to see if Diddy can recreate the magic of Making the Band with today's new generation of artists. We will have to wait and see.
