See A California Child In A Blue Swimsuit? Pull Them Out Of The Water Immediately
Fact: drowning is the leading cause of death & disability for California children.
Nikki Scarnati was just a concerned swim instructor when her TikTok spread like wildfire across the internet in 2023. A young mother, Scarnati created the video to point out the life-threatening dangers of blue swimwear on young and small children.
Over six million people watched in horror as Scarnati's own blue swimsuit-wearing child went practically invisible inside their family pool. If her little girl could had been drowning before her very eyes, the light blue swimsuit would've likely concealed the crisis.
Scarnati also called out how white, pastel, and flesh-toned suits in still and choppy waters also make it nearly impossible to spot a drowning child in her TikTok posted below.
@scarnati.swim Just dont do it! Why think about which bathing suits for the splash pad? Just buy bright ones!! ☀️☀️ #selfrescue #selfrescueswimming #selfrescueswim #watersafety #drowningpreventionawareness #springhillisd ♬ original sound - Nikki Scarnati
Swimming is a year-round activity for many Californian children.
As we head into the summer season, pools, beaches, and lakes will be at their most crowded. If you see a young or small child wearing a blue, white, or flesh-toned swimsuit, please take a moment to compassionately (and tactfully) express the potentially dire issue to their parent, caregiver, or the lifeguard on-duty.
Your courageous concern could save that child's life.
