That guy that threw the game winning Hail Mary for BYU last weekend to beat Nebraska is originally from the Treasure Valley. And he has another chance to be a hero this weekend against our Boise State Broncos.  It's hard to cheer against him!  As a Nebraska graduate and former Husker season ticket holder, and now a Boise State homer, let me just say Tanner Mangum is not someone I want to send a Christmas card to.

Tanner took over for the injured BYU quarterback,Taysom Hill, in last week's BYU-Nebraska game, and at the very end of the game, Tanner launched a 50-yard touchdown pass to win the game as time expired.  Cougar players swarmed him and he was the big hero, and Memorial Stadium at Nebraska was dead silent and stunned.

I love that goose bump moment for a local kid.  He's a great athlete and it's awesome that he can be a star on a national stage, and it's cool that Eagle gets the spotlight.  But he just might be responsible for my extra vodka/cranberry pain-number last weekend.

Now Tanner Mangum gets a shot at Boise State in his first collegiate start.  KTVB says he led the Mustangs to a 5A runner up spot his senior year at Eagle, and he had ESPN camera crews following him around at times.  He's good. But the Broncos might have something to say about how happy they are for this hometown sensation's success.

Boise State and Brigham Young kick off Saturday night at 8:15 in Provo on ESPN2.
