Rarely does something positive come from assumptions. Usually based on absolutely nothing, these bits of misinformation can be damaging, funny, awkward, and embarrassing. Sometimes they're enough to keep us from diving into experiences that could’ve been amazing.

As far as states are concerned, Idaho probably takes the cake when it comes to the volume of myths, misinformation, and assumptions about what it means to reside here.

Don't believe us? Mention Idaho to a non-Idahoan then sit back as a barrage of potato puns and jokes follow. Does Idaho grow a mean potato? You betcha! But the assumption that it’s all potatoes all the time is a limiting bummer!

Hanging your hat on the Idaho potato stereotype means missing out on everything this quirky and cool state has to offer! From stunning landscapes to exhilarating outdoor adventures, and a wine scene that rivals Napa Valley, Idaho has a lot to offer. And let's not forget the incredible people who call this state home.

In the end, assumptions can be funny, mortifying, or wildly misleading. But the biggest reason we don't dabble in them is that they usually stop us from diving headfirst into experiences that could change our perspectives, elevate our standards, or give us a great story to tell at the next dinner party.

Call us crazy, but whether it's Idaho, a person, or any other experience or idea, we prefer live, uncut reality for better or for worse. The gallery below reflects the opinions of real Idahoans and the assumptions they'd love to put to bed about their home state.
