When do you typically put up your Christmas lights?

Last year, the Christmas light process became overwhelming.

I had to haul out the dusty storage bins, lumber up the ladder and install all those clips before I could even get started on the actually lights. I love driving home at the end of the work day and seeing the Christmas lights (it always puts a smile on my face), but I don't love the work it takes to get there.

So, this year, I decided to work smarter, not harder. I learned about All Pro Lighting, a service that helps you design and then install holiday light displays. They even drive by your house weekly for a safety and aesthetic check and then fix anything they find wrong. And, they provide all the lights and equipment.

Typically, my wife Savannah and I like piling in the car with our dogs, Koda & Gypsy, and driving around to see all the neighbors' lights but we're not speedy at putting up our own decorations. In fact, last year after I got done installing our lights, I realized a large dark area right above my garage door. One strand had ended and I just kept going but lights didn't start immediately on the next strand. It was a bah humbug moment for me.

This year, though, Mark and Patrick were great to work with. Savannah and I liked the idea of having blue and white lights on our house in Nampa, so Mark suggested an alternating pattern of two bulbs of each color. We incorporated more color and fun in the bushes and trees in the yard. It all started with me filling out the contact form on their website and Mark called me within a few hours to set up an appointment.

With their expertise, my house looks better than anything I could have ever done on my own. Check it out:

Left to my own devices, I definitely wouldn't have our holiday lights up in October, but it's kind of nice being the first ones done in our subdivision. Our neighbor remarked that his wife is ready to get started on their outdoor lights soon after seeing ours.

And, I'm sure Savannah appreciates that I have all that much more time to work on our Christmas cards and indoor decorations since I didn't have to toil away outside on the ladder.
