It's all about safety in the friendly skies.

Pun intended, certain things just don't fly in the friendly skies. The Transportation Security Administration has a trove of rules and regulations passengers are legally required to follow. Sharp objects like certain kinds of knives and scissors, even some sporting goods, are banned in carry-ons.

Restricted & permitted carry-on items have a weird overlap.

If you noticed the phrase "certain kinds of knives" are banned in carry-ons, you may be wondering what kinds of knives are allowed on planes.

Though technically not knives,  consider axes and hatchets to be in the knife family. Sharp, pointy, and capable of great harm and damage in an aircraft, TSA allows passengers to have both of these easily weaponized items in their carry-on.

Does anyone else think this is nuts and completely counterintuitive? TSA won't permit passengers to have liquids over 3.4 ounces in their carry-ons, but it's hunky-dory to have a hatchet in your tote bag.

If you find that dichotomy fascinating, it gets even weirder and more disturbing in the gallery below 😳
